There is a substantial level of development of mini-grid and off-grid systems in Liberia. There is the Rural Energy Strategy and Master Plan to support the development of mini-grid systems - an integrated plan that sets a least cost electrification pathway including grid, mini-grid and off-grid systems and clearly demarcating areas for each system.
The mini-grids, developed and operated by Energicity, have the potential to provide up to 8,000 Liberians with access to electricity. This week marked the official inauguration of the BGFA co-funded solar mini-grids in the communities of Totoquelleh and Farwhenta in Gbarpolu, northern Liberia.
Liberia is part of the 19 countries under the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP) project. 16 ROGEP is a US$333.7 million project supported by the World Bank. ROGEP aims to enhance electricity ac-cess in West Africa and the Sahel region through SAS systems. ROGEP is scheduled to end in 2030.
